On the 1st January 1862, Edward Cole and George Burnell left from Echuca for a journey down the Murray River.
Taking photographs of stations, settlements, Aboriginal communities and collecting botanical specimens, they rowed & drifted
1700 Kilometres for 4 months.
Edward Cole returned to Melbourne establishing the Cole's Book Arcade and George Burnell went to Adelaide and founded a photography business.
The set of stereograph photos of their trip remain the earliest of the landscape, river and its people.
