Join us as we tell Lawson's own dramatic, often tragic life story, highlighted by his legendary, much-loved poems... about the bush and the city, mateship, endurance, kindness and resistance to oppression.

Born on the goldfields, Lawson was a radical, a poverty-stricken alcoholic, unlucky in love, a jail inmate... yet his works were feted around the world.

This year marks a century since he died... yet still Lawson is revered as a giant among writers, who held up a mirror showing us our Australian identity

Echuca Historical Society Museum
 Operating hours
10am - 2pm daily

Echuca Historical Society’s Museum is the one place in town where you can really go to find ‘curiosities’ and get your teeth into some remarkable stories.

Just step into its enclosed back veranda display and you will find a fascinating – at times comical – collection of children’s toys from yesteryear, period clothing and furniture – and false teeth.
We regularly turn over the outfits in the costume room and have once again just changed that display to now feature a recent donation of three white afternoon dresses from 1880 alongside three of our well-loved ‘regulars’ from 1847 to 1900
Also included in that display are beaded decorations for the fashionable woman from 1880 – and there’s no doubt many of these accessories would work perfectly well today

A mini-exhibition of paintings of the Echuca buildings designed by the celebrated German-Australian architect William Vahland
 Daily 10am – 2pm

Groups welcome but please let us know your numbers so we can ensure a Covid safe visit
